Go to the Sign Up For Projects page here and follow the instructions given.
After you have completed registration, you'll be redirected to the required YVC information/waiver form. All volunteers must fill out a waiver before participating in any Youth Volunteer Corps activities. You may also find the information/waiver form here. Some agencies require a separate volunteer waiver. These waivers will be made available in the project descriptions. PDF versions of the YVC Youth Profile and Parent Waiver can be downloaded here: English Version and Spanish Version
IS THERE A COST TO PARTICIPATE? YVC is open to all. Episodic (day-long) projects have no fees for participation. YVC's "pay what you can" summer programming is offered at subsidized rates, reduced fees, and full scholarships. Meals, snacks, and transportation are not provided
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO AN EVENT? It is recommended that volunteers bring these items to each event: closed-toe shoes, sack lunch, water bottle, sunscreen (outdoor projects), and bug spray (outdoor projects). If there are special requirements, these will be noted in project descriptions.
WILL PROJECTS BE CANCELLED IF THE WEATHER IS BAD? Please note: in the case of inclement weather, outdoor YVC projects may be cancelled. During cold weather months, projects may be cancelled if the predicted temperature is 40 degrees or less at the start time of the project. Participants will be notified no later than 7 pm the night before the project by the YVC program director via text and email (using contact information provided at time of registration). The same communication policy will apply in the case of incoming winter weather.
Youth safety is YVC’s first priority. If you have questions about this policy, please call at 816-472-9822 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
WHAT IS A TYPICAL PROJECT LIKE? The projects at the YVC program in Joplin will be supervised by Laura Noonan. YVC volunteers will join a team of their peers, ages 11 to 18, to volunteer their time and service to help local nonprofits and learn about issues in the Joplin community. Participants arrive around 10-15 minutes early and an icebreaker or team-builder activity starts each day of the YVC program. Volunteers are introduced to one another and the agency staff who provide instructions to the team. As service takes place, the program director will lead volunteers in service-learning activities, energizer games, and facilitate meaningful reflection. Our goal is to create service that is rewarding, challenging, and educational for youth. WILL LUNCH AND TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED? No. All youth will be responsible for their own lunches as well as transportation to and from the event. Project location details will be provided at sign-up and confirmed with participants prior to events.
